Organized by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in partnership with Lebanon Solidere and in association with the Australian NGO MAPW (Medical Association for Prevention of War), this exhibition entitled "Artists for Peace 2011" held in Beirut at the Galerie Piece unique, therefore, until October 9. It brings together 24 painters, sculptors and photographers Lebanese well publicized (see below).
In parallel, an exhibition featuring works of Australian artists on the same theme (also organized by the NGO MAPW) will be held during the same period, to Freemantle in Western Australia.
The aim of this double coupling is to "generate, through the Lebanese and Australian artists, dialogue and inspiration to build a more peaceful world," organizers said. More prosaically, the proceeds of sales of works by 24 artists from Lebanon and that of some of the works of Australian artists will be used to fund charitable projects of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Lebanon.
Recall that the MAPW is an NGO based in Australia working to promote peace and disarmament. It aims in particular to reduce the physical and psychological impact and the environmental effects of wars around the world. In 1986, she received the prestigious Australian of peace during the International Year of Peace.
Since its founding in 1981, MAPW was a strong voice in working to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, promoting the use of resources for the welfare of man and environment rather than the acquisition arms.
