Computer: Sopra integrates the publisher Delta

The IT services company Sopra Group (1.17 billion euros in sales in 2010, 12,300 employees) is increasing in services to retail banks. This giant of the board and IT services is about to acquire Delta Computer. Sopra, which is negotiating the acquisition of 100% of the capital, does not disclose the amount of the transaction. The transaction is expected to close in early October.
Delta is a little known gem in France, especially as it carries out most of its business in Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Based in Tours, the publisher of banking software employs approximately 300 employees including 250 in the Hexagon. Founded in 1981 by Claude Delage, who always presides, the company contributes to the operation of some 150 banks in 44 countries. Foreign subsidiaries of Société Générale and BPCE use solutions such as Delta. Its turnover has doubled in less than ten years, reaching 33.5 million euros in 2010, nearly 90% for export. Its net return is greater than 10%.
At fifty-nine, Claude Delage has sought to sustain the company. Sopra Group it guarantees the maintenance of the site Touraine, which operates non-stop, a "hotline" run by thirty people. The leader should also maintain positions in the Sopra Group.Geographic coverage
For its part, Sopra Group already has an offer for the banks, gathered through its brand Evolan. The French IT services company providing a quarter of its revenue from the financial sector. "Delta completes our coverage and our catalog, at a time when banks seek to reduce costs. Our products are there to help them, "said Jean-Paul Bourbon, director of financial services Sopra Group.
Sopra is based on 243 million euros of equity after the IPO of its subsidiary Axway in June. And indebtedness of the SSII flirts with 6% of revenue, which leaves him room for maneuver for other acquisitions. "We want to strengthen our position as a solutions provider to the bancassurance sector across Europe," says Jean-Paul Bourbon.

Elders meet to many computer courses - Saint-Urbain

Mardi matin, leur ordinateur sous le bras, ils sont venus apprendre pour rester dans le coup.
A new offering complements the activities of the club for seniors. Yvon Cuzon surrounded by Bernard, Raymond, Jean-Jacques and Manu, have chosen to lead the Tuesday morning computer classes toward seniors. And the offer was quick to find its audience. Tuesday 20, during the second being returned, they were full.

"From 10 am to 11 pm, it is the beginners and 11 am to 12 pm insiders note one of the speakers. For the comfort of all, the group can not extend, for against, it can create another. "Another advanced course is scheduled on Friday from 30 to 18 h 16 h 30.

Surfing the Net

After the discovery of the mouse, keyboard, keys, last Tuesday, up to the seizure of a text. "We also discover the recordings on USB sticks and we will start looking for information on the Internet during the next two sessions."

Communicate with family

Here, grannies and grandpas dynamics move primarily to learn how to use a computer to communicate with their families, to transmit pictures and make new ones. "My children are in Rennes, then with the web cam is great," said Bernard, who has used professional software, but does not know the functioning Internet.

Gisele, who was the resistance has surprised her children when she decided "to get started. It will allow me to keep in touch with my grandchildren if they go away. And then it also allows for various research, "said the former teacher.

A robot could carry the Olympic Flame

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alan Turing, founder of computer science, a researcher suggested that the iCub robot is one of the torchbearers.
Le robot iCub (Sipa)
A robot has been nominated to carry the Olympic torch during the opening ceremony of the London Games in 2012, reported Tuesday, September 20th the New Scientist website.
The candidate is called iCub, a robot resembling a little boy, and equipped with artificial intelligence enabling it to learn from humans "like a child learning to walk," says New Scientist. Developed by a consortium of European universities, iCub is already able to crawl, archery and show facial expressions.
100 years of Alan Turing
It was Professor James Law, computer scientist at Aberystwyth University, which allowed the appointment of the robot through a partnership with one of the sponsors of the Olympics. According to him, this selection would be a way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alan Turing, British mathematician considered the inventor of computer science.
"A torchbearer robotics is a tribute to Alan Turing adequate, and an inspiration to future generations of scientists and engineers," argues Professor James Law. The chances qu'iCub is selected, however, remain limited.
Indeed, the regulations state that holders of the Olympic flame must be UK residents and more than 12 years. iCub being a robot, we would have an exemption, or a particularly flexible interpretation of the regulation.

Online players solve puzzles, an AIDS

Une séquence de jeu Foldit.
Player online gaming Foldit managed to find the structure of an enzyme linked to AIDS from monkeys in a few weeks. Scientists stumbled upon the puzzle for ten years.

Ten years that scientists looking for the real shape of an enzyme linked to AIDS in a type of monkey, the rhesus macaque. It only took three weeks to a team of players online to find the solution, which may lead to a significant research against AIDS in humans. A performance made possible by the serious game Foldit ("bend it" in English), developed by the departments of computer science and biochemistry at the University of Washington.
Proteins, which include enzymes, play a vital role in the human body. In the case of AIDS from monkeys, discovered the enzyme, type retroviral protease contributes to the spread of the virus within the body. To prevent such proliferation, scientists must know the actual structure in three dimensions, of this enzyme in order to create a drug that can stop it.
Although it is relatively easy to know the composition of a protein, it is much more difficult to know its shape in three dimensions. Proteins are composed of amino acids linked by peptide bonds said. These can rotate or bend, to give the protein its final form. The possible combinations are enormous. And computers used by scientists struggle to "guess" what combination is most effective.
Sharing human intelligenceThis is where online gambling is involved Foldit. Its creator, Seth Cooper, has gone from a simple observation. "People thinking skills in space much greater than that of computers," said he. Therefore, rather than consolidate the power of multiple computers to perform complex calculations, will share Foldit human brains with a video game.
The game then the players, individually or in teams, "crushing" the chains of amino acids of a protein to find its true virtual form, respecting the basic rules of chemistry. Initially, Foldit included only proteins whose actual shape was known to scientists. By manipulating these models in three dimensions by humans, the creators of the game trying to understand the mechanics of the human brain for reasoning in space. Data that could be exploited later to improve the capabilities of computers.

Nearly 240,000 people have played Foldit since its launch in 2008. And biochemists are not the most talented in this puzzle game. In 2008, Foldit players participated in an international competition of protein folding. And against all odds, these fans have held a candle to the scientists.
One of the most talented players he was only 13 years old at the time. When asked by researchers on reasoning to find the best combination, the latter merely shrugged his shoulders in response that it "seemed more like it," recalls Wired. "Fold is proof that a game can turn a novice into an expert," said Zoran Popovic, a professor of computer science at the University of Washington
A discovery published in NatureRecently, the creators of Foldit embarked on a new challenge: to floor the best players on the structure of proteins on which the scientific community stops. Thus the team "Contender", consisting of fifteen people, focused on the enzyme rhesus macaque. "Players have a variety of profiles, some work in computer science or the scientific community, but the best are out of it," said "Mimi," which belongs to the team Contender at MSNBC. "One of the main features of Folder is the instant chat feature, built into the game Contender members living in Canada, the United States, Europe and New Zealand, it was essential to communicate."
In ten days, players have found a probable structure of the enzyme. This response was forwarded to scientists, who refined over several days the model proposed by the players. Based on the ideas of these fans, they were able to find the exact model of the protein. This discovery led to an article published in the journal Nature. "We solved a small piece of the puzzle that will allow us to combat AIDS," says the author of the article, Firas Khatir, a biochemist at the University of Washington, MSNBC.
"The results released this week show that by combining gaming, and computer science, we arrive at the advances that were not previously possible," said Seth Cooper. For some scientists, experience shows that the game Foldit could revolutionize the way we teach math and science in school.

Meg Whitman takes the reins of HP

The Board of Directors of HP has landed on Thursday its chief executive, Leo Apotheker, after less than a year of service. The former boss of eBay, Meg Whitman, succeeded him. Meg Whitman is the new boss of Hewlett Packard. The board of directors of the first computer maker has landed Thursday its chief executive Leo Apotheker, after less than a year of service, replacing the former head of Ebay. Since last year, it was on the board of the world's number one computer.

"We're fortunate to have someone of the caliber of Meg Whitman, with his experience, to lead HP," said Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ray Lane, in a statement. "We are at a difficult time and we need a new management for the successful implementation of our strategy and exploit market opportunities."

Wednesday, the title of HP jumped more than 7% on Wall Street after several Anglo-Saxon media (AllThingsD, Reuters and Bloomberg) have in turn reported this information.

End of September 2010, HP had appointed to head the group Leo Apotheker, a former CEO of German software company SAP, to succeed Mark Hurd, who was ousted in an expense report inaccurate. The IT group has had seven different CEOs since 1999.

Cloud computing "French" whets the appetites

Un centre de serveurs informatiques dans la région parisienne en avril 2008.
135 million euros "in the cloud" reveals the daily Les Echos on Wednesday, the state will invest heavily in the project Andromeda, a company to be established on November 1 by bringing together a conglomerate Orange, Thales and Dassault systems with the aim of forming a French giant cloud computing. Also called "cloud computing" (cloud in English), cloud computing covers all services that are managed directly online, and not from software running on a workstation: e-mail services , word processing, database management ...

The industry heavyweights like Microsoft, Google and Amazon, already offer pallets of virtual services, for individuals but also businesses. For the latter, the interests are many: easy management - maintenance is ensured by their provider - economies of scale, ease of deployment ... on the lucrative niche of office, for example, Microsoft and Google compete in a market growing, with Google Docs and Office 365, launched last year.
SOVEREIGNTY OF DATA
But these remote services have their weaknesses, and assume that the particular customer abandons a portion of control over his computer. In sensitive areas such as defense or health, companies are reluctant to use services that make their data pass through servers in the United States or other countries. It is here that intends to use Andromeda to create a French giant capable of competing with U.S. companies.
The question is even more acute for the authorities. "The sovereignty of the data is a key point for the public players," explained Jerome Brown Tuesday, Vice President of Atos in the conference back to Microsoft France. The two companies have launched a partnership to offer a version of the government services of Microsoft Office 365, hosted by Atos - and thus in France. "The public needs the assurance that their data will not leave Europe, or better yet, the national territory. We often hear that these technologies do not interest the public sector is completely wrong, but must be able to meet their specific constraints. "
In other countries of the European Union, the constraints could tighten drastically: the Netherlands and are planning to ban outright the use of government online services run by U.S. companies. Indeed, recall Numerama, U.S. anti-terrorism legislation allows the government access to all data hosted by American companies.

The Data Protection Act more burdensome for the actors in the net

France has transposed by order dated August 24, 2011, the EU directive, called Telecoms Package, which modifies substantially the Data Protection Act. Two important points have changed, that will change the lives of the users and operators, service providers and websites.
The first concerns the obligation to notify in case of violation of personal data made possible by security flaws. "The security breaches that result in a accidental or unlawful loss, alteration and unauthorized access to personal data should be systematically reported by operators to the CNIL," it says on the site of the Commission. Only suppliers of electronic communications services open to the public, that is to say, in essence, the operators declared to Arcep, shall be bound by this obligation. However, this raises the question of exactly to whom they apply, because the notion of operator of electronic communications services is relatively vague ....
Specifically, the operator must make available to the CNIL an inventory of the violations found, which "must include the terms and effects caused by the breach and the measures taken to address them," said Hervé Gadabou, partner at Courtois Lebel . The notification is not required if the CNIL found that appropriate security measures (encryption ...) were applied by the supplier, he says.
No tacit acceptance tolerated
The second change made by the order of 24 August relating to the acceptance of the Internet, microfile of cookies (cookies) downloaded to the terminal by websites on which he sails. It must be prior, which would substantially change the practices of targeted marketing on the Internet.
The consent of the Internet and will be associated with information that would clarify, in particular, the mechanisms allowing, if necessary, to return later on his decision and express refusal. According to the Commission, a browser settings to accept all cookies without distinguishing their purpose can not be considered an agreement validly expressed.
The technical means to meet these obligations to be determined. Indeed, the text states only that the consent of the Internet "can result from appropriate parameters of its connection device or other device placed under his control." According to Hervé Gadabou would mean that "the operator must in any event, modify the conditions of use of its site to fulfill its duty of information, incorporating the new rules imposed by the order." Of work ahead for
